The core scenes of episodes 1 and 2, where former swimmer Seo An-na and Yoon Deok-hyun first cross paths and learn to free-dive together, were filmed on the sandy beach of Bijindo. The island's unusual shape, two landmasses joined by a slender sandbar, and its clear water frame the pair's clumsy beginning. It sits about 40 to 50 minutes by ferry from Tongyeong Passenger Terminal, and with its swimming beach and walking trails it is the easiest of the islands on which to meet the drama's sea.

소매물도 등대섬 경상남도 통영시 한산면 매죽리

Somaemuldo and the neighboring Deungdaeseom (Lighthouse Island) are the stage for the romance's signature moments. Yeolmokgae, the gravel path that links the two islands at low tide, appears as the backdrop for the turning point where An-na and Deok-hyun's feelings shift hardest. The path opens and closes with the tide, so it is worth checking a Tongyeong tide table before you go, and reaching the lighthouse viewpoint means a steep uphill walk.

대매물도 경상남도 통영시 한산면 매죽리

Daemaemuldo turns up often as the base for the haenyeo village community and the diving-work scenes. The island's Danggeum and Daehang villages became the model for the show's village community, and the sequence in which An-na learns to dive from the senior haenyeo was shot here. Old stone walls, sloping alleys and work yards opening toward the sea still remain, so you can feel the warmth of the drama's community just as it is.

연대도 경상남도 통영시 산양읍

Yeondaedo, the closest island to Tongyeong's mainland, carries the quiet everyday scenes. Its village alleys, small harbor and old country houses remain intact, standing in as An-na's former home and the mooring where Deok-hyun ties up his boat. Walk the Jigetgil trail that loops the island and you can slowly take in the calm face of the Tongyeong sea the drama captured.
