去掉太空段落，本片的地球是艾伯塔，外星则是冰岛。玉米田不是CG，而是剧组在朗维尤一带真正种下并养大的500英亩作物。曼恩博士的冰之星是斯维纳山冰川，埃德蒙兹的星球是马法波特一带的黑沙平原。沿冰岛南部环岛公路走，一天之内就能穿过这两颗星球。
