The 1900s Hanseong streets of the drama are an open set built in Nonsan. Western-style modern buildings, tiled-roof houses, thatched cottages and Japanese houses stand together across roughly twenty thousand square meters, and a streetcar of the kind that began running in 1899 sits on rails through the middle. The Glory Hotel run by Kudo Hina is here too. The site stayed closed while filming ran, opened to the public in November 2018, and has since hosted Pachinko and Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938. It closes on Wednesdays, and the last entry is half an hour before closing.

The wooden footbridge where Eugene tells Ae-shin 「Let's do love. With me」 stands in front of Manhyujeong in Gilan-myeon, Andong. Kim Gye-haeng, an official remembered for his integrity, built the pavilion in 1501 after stepping away from office, and the bridge crosses the stream running down from Songam Falls. The site was designated a national scenic site in 2011. Queues for a photograph on the bridge grew long after the drama aired, and since the deck is narrow only a few people should stand on it at once. From the parking lot it is about a ten minute walk up a dirt path.

Most of the railway scenes, including the moment Ae-shin first sees Eugene Choi in uniform, were shot at the old Seodo Station in Samae-myeon, Namwon. The station closed in 2002 when the Jeolla Line was rerouted, and it has been restored to its 1932 appearance and reopened as a filming set. It is also the setting of Choi Myeong-hui's novel Honbul, so the wooden station house, the rails and the pine grove all fall into one frame. It opens year round and parking is free.

Mokhwa Academy, where Ae-shin studies English, and the house she lives in were both shot at Keimyung Hanhakchon inside the Seongseo campus of Keimyung University in Daegu. The university built a hanok complex with a lecture hall, living quarters and courtyards on one edge of the campus, which makes it one of the few locations here you can reach by subway and bus from the city center. It is a campus facility, so access can be blocked when classes or events are running, and it is worth checking before you go.

The inside and outside of the train Ae-shin boards with Japanese soldiers in episode 3, and the Tokyo streets that appear in episode 22, were both filmed at Hapcheon Film Theme Park. Opened in 2004, the set holds a steam locomotive along with a recreated Gyeongseong streetscape, the Japanese Government-General building, and bathhouses, barbershops and tearooms of the 1930s and 1940s. It sits beside Hapcheon Lake, so finishing the set and walking out toward the water makes an easy route. It closes on Mondays, so check the day before you set out.

The scenes at the American legation where Eugene works were shot at Unbo's House in Naesu-eup, Cheongju. The painter Kim Ki-chang, who worked after losing his hearing and went by the pen name Unbo, spent his later years here, and the hanok main hall, the pond and the wide garden all remain. To recognise the rooms that stood in for the legation interior, look past the yard at how the building is laid out inside. A gallery and a sculpture park adjoin the house, and a full loop takes about an hour.
