In an age when crops die one by one and dust storms roll over the towns, former pilot Cooper leaves through a wormhole beside Saturn to look for a world people can live on. Time runs differently in another gravity well, so an hour spent out there costs his daughter years back on Earth.
Strip out the space and this film's Earth is Alberta and its alien worlds are Iceland. The corn was not CG. The production actually planted and grew 500 acres of it around Longview. Mann's ice planet is Svínafellsjökull glacier, and Edmunds' world is the black sand flats around Máfabót. Follow Iceland's southern ring road and you can pass through both planets in a day.

Svínafellsjökull glacier in Iceland is Mann's ice planet. The conceit that what looks like cloud is in fact a frozen wall came out of this real glacier surface, streaked with black volcanic ash. The Himalayan scenes in Batman Begins were shot on the same ice.
Máfabót Skaftárhreppur Iceland
Máfabót in Skaftárhreppur, southern Iceland, Edmunds' planet from the film's final scenes, black sand and shallow water running flat to the horizon. It is close to the ring road but unsignposted, so navigate by coordinates.
Longview Alberta Canada
Longview, Alberta, where Cooper's farmhouse and cornfield were built. This is where the production planted and grew the corn itself, then harvested and sold it after the shoot; the parent-teacher scene was filmed at Longview School.
Seaman Stadium Okotoks Alberta Canada
Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, Alberta, where the dust storm rolls in mid-ballgame and scatters the crowd. In real life it is a small ballpark used by the local team, and in summer you can go and watch a game.
