Cobb steals ideas by entering other people's dreams; this time he is hired to plant one instead. The job carries the promise of going home, so he leads his team down through a dream inside a dream inside another dream, and the deeper they go, the further the memory of his dead wife bleeds into the operation.
For a film about dreams, Nolan reached for real places before CG. The Pont de Bir-Hakeim in Paris is exactly the bridge the two of them walk before Ariadne folds the city upward, and it is easy to find with the Eiffel Tower off to one side. Add the alleys of Tangier and Fortress Mountain in Kananaskis, Canada, and one film holds three continents.

Pont de Bir-Hakeim Paris France
The Pont de Bir-Hakeim in Paris, the two-level iron bridge Cobb walks along while explaining the rules of dreams to Ariadne. Metro line 6 runs on the upper deck; the lower walkway with its regular rhythm of columns is the stretch you see on screen, and the Eiffel Tower stands square ahead.
Grand Socco Tangier Morocco
The Grand Socco and the old-town lanes of Tangier, Morocco, where the Mombasa market chase was shot. The sequence in which Cobb is squeezed into a narrowing alley works because these lanes really do taper to barely one person wide.
Fortress Mountain Resort Kananaskis Alberta Canada
Fortress Mountain at Kananaskis in Alberta, Canada, where the snow-fortress battle of the deepest level was built as a set on the ski area. It sits about 90 kilometres west of Calgary and now runs as a snowcat-accessed backcountry ski operation.
