Porquerolles is accessible by ferry from the Tour Fondue terminal on the Giens Peninsula, with crossings taking approximately 20 minutes and departing frequently during the April-to-October high season; winter services are reduced. The island has no through-road for private motor vehicles, and bicycles available for hire near the ferry dock are the standard means of reaching the beaches and viewpoints shown in scenic coverage of the island. The north-facing Plage Notre-Dame and the southern coastal path toward the Lighthouse of Porquerolles (Phare de Porquerolles, built 1837) offer the open-water framing most associated with aerial and wide-angle footage of the island. Early morning light from the east produces the clearest conditions for photographing the pine-backed coastline. Overnight accommodation on the island is limited to a small number of hotels and gîtes, so day-trip planning from Hyères or Toulon is the more practical option for most visitors.
