After the night his wife was killed, a man can no longer hold a new memory for more than ten minutes, and hunts her killer armed only with Polaroids and messages tattooed on his own body. The story starts at the end and runs backwards, dropping the audience into each scene as ignorant of what just happened as he is.
Not one frame of the palm trees and beaches that Los Angeles usually means. Everything was shot in the motels and bars on the edge of the San Fernando Valley, which is why the film never feels anchored to a particular city. The Travel Inn in Tujunga still carries the same sign, so one photograph is enough to recognise it.
