Yoo Shi-jin, a special forces captain, and Kang Mo-yeon, a surgeon, meet by chance at a Seoul hospital and fall for each other, then split over what saving a life should mean. Years later they face each other again in Uruk, a fictional deployment zone hit first by war and then by an earthquake. Written by Kim Eun-sook and Kim Won-suk, directed by Lee Eung-bok and Baek Sang-hoon, the 16 episode KBS2 series from 2016 was shot in full before it aired, which was rare for a Korean drama at the time.
The fictional country of Uruk was built across the closed coal country of Gangwon Province. The set inside Tongni Tantan Park in Taebaek and Samtan Art Mine in Jeongseon stand about 20km apart, near enough to cover in one day, while the Mediterranean half of the drama belongs to Navagio Beach on Zakynthos in Greece, reachable only by boat and really a separate trip altogether.

The Uruk Taebaek set, built on the grounds of the former Hanbo colliery. The quarters shared by the Alpha team and the medical volunteers were left standing, so the Medicube, the emergency room and the Zakynthos hall can be walked in sequence, and the collapsed building where workers were pulled from the rubble has been recreated as well. The main poster image of Shi-jin tying Mo-yeon's shoelace and the training scenes on the coal yard both came from this site.
삼탄아트마인 강원 정선군 고한읍
A closed mine turned arts complex, once the Jeongam pit of the Samcheok Coal Company, and the second pillar of the Uruk footage. The earthquake sequence in episode 6 and the scene where Mo-yeon is abducted by Agus were both filmed here. The washroom where some three thousand miners cleaned up after a shift is now an exhibition space called Mine Gallery 4.
덕산기계곡 강원 정선군
The valley where Shi-jin and Mo-yeon pitch a tent in the final episode. Among the Jeongseon stops the Korea Tourism Organization groups under this drama, it is the only one that is landscape rather than a built set, and it sits in the same county as Samtan Art Mine, so it slots easily into the same day.
Navagio Beach Zakynthos Greece
The cliff-ringed cove that Shi-jin and Mo-yeon reach by speedboat in episode 3. A smuggling vessel that ran aground in 1982 still lies on the sand, which is why it is known as Shipwreck Beach. There is no road down, so the cove is reached by boat from the harbours of Zakynthos, with a clifftop viewpoint as the other option.
