Eight years after Batman took the blame for Harvey Dent's death, Gotham is outwardly calm and Bruce Wayne has shut himself inside the manor. Bane breaks that quiet. Dropped into an underground prison with his back broken, Bruce has to start again from the simple act of climbing out.
This is the film where Gotham duty passes from Chicago to Pittsburgh; the collapsing football stadium was shot at Acrisure Stadium with real spectators as extras. The pit that holds Bruce, meanwhile, is the wall of Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India, and its floor is the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri. Those two Rajasthan sites already sit on a well-established touring route.

Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India. The outer wall of the pit, the sheer vertical face with the circle of sky above it, is this fort's rampart. It stands 120 metres up on a cliff, and looking from below gives you the film's angle exactly.
Chand Baori stepwell Abhaneri Rajasthan India
Chand Baori at Abhaneri in Rajasthan, the interior of the pit, with stairs running away in every direction, is this stepwell. Built in the ninth century and thirteen storeys deep, its more than three thousand interlocking steps are the attraction in themselves. It sits on the road from Jaipur to Agra.
Wollaton Hall Nottingham England
Wollaton Hall in Nottingham, Wayne Manor for this instalment. An Elizabethan house built in the 1580s, it now serves as a natural history museum and sits in a large deer park. The front seen from the lawn is precisely the shot.
Acrisure Stadium 100 Art Rooney Avenue Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, called Heinz Field at the time of filming, where Bane brings the football field down with explosives. The ten thousand-odd people in the stands were local extras. On non-game days you can book a stadium tour.
