A technology that runs time backwards arrives from the future, and a nameless operative is handed the job of stopping it. Bullets leap out of walls back into guns, and the same event plays forward and in reverse at once. The line about not trying to understand it but feeling it is addressed to the audience too.
Shot in seven countries, so the location list reads like an itinerary. The most recognisable is Laagna Road in Tallinn: eight kilometres of this half-sunken motorway through the city centre were closed for three weeks for the reverse-driving chase, and you can still look down the whole length of it from the footbridges above. The roof of the Oslo Opera House and the Gateway of India in Mumbai are likewise unchanged.

Laagna tee Lasnamäe Tallinn Estonia
Laagna Road in Tallinn, where the motorway chase of forward- and reverse-running vehicles was filmed. It is cut down into bedrock so stone walls flank both sides, and the footbridges crossing above give you the same overhead view as the film.
Oslo Opera House Operahuset Oslo Norway
The Oslo Opera House, whose white marble roof rises at an angle straight out of the water, the rooftop scene was shot here. The roof is designed as a public walkway, so anyone can climb it and look out over the fjord.
Gateway of India Mumbai Maharashtra India
The Gateway of India in Mumbai; forty boats were positioned off it for the scene in which the Protagonist heads out to meet Priya. The 1924 arch faces the Arabian Sea and, together with the Taj Mahal Palace hotel beside it, forms the most recognisable view in the city.
Costiera Amalfitana Amalfi Coast Salerno Italy
The Amalfi Coast in Italy, the water where Sator's yacht and villa sit. The catamaran race itself was shot off Cowes on the Isle of Wight for scheduling reasons, so on the Amalfi side what you go to confirm is the impression: villages clinging to cliffs and yachts riding in the bay.
