On the day she wins France's top culinary competition, chef Yeon Ji-young is unexpectedly hurled back to the Joseon era. Facing King Yi Heon — celebrated as the finest gourmet and feared as the cruelest tyrant — she has only one weapon to survive: her cooking. A fantasy survival romantic comedy spanning 500 years.
A showcase of Korea's finest period-drama locations, where palace sets meet sweeping landscapes. From the grand open sets of Hapcheon and Buan to the riverside view at Andong's Gosanjeong Pavilion — also famous from Mr. Sunshine — every spot doubles as a photo destination. Bundling the sets with the natural scenery makes for a satisfying day out.
Filming Locations
Hapcheon Movie Theme Park at 757 Hapcheonhosu-ro, Yongju-myeon, Hapcheon, South Gyeongsang Province. A large open set recreating old Gyeongseong and Joseon palace streets, it hosted the show's bigger sequences — including tyrant Yi Heon's processions and crowd scenes outside the palace. Originally built for the film Taegukgi, it carries a thick period-drama atmosphere. There is an entrance fee and it is closed on Mondays.
Buan Film Theme Park at 309-64 Gyeokpo-ro, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan, North Jeolla Province. With its imposing palace buildings and broad courtyards, this set was used mainly for the interior palace scenes where tyrant Yi Heon resides. Close to the Byeonsan Peninsula, it pairs well with a visit to Gyeokpo Beach and Chaeseokgang Cliffs. The entrance fee is modest, easy on families.
Mungyeong Saejae Open Set at 932 Saejae-ro, Mungyeong-eup, Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province. One of Korea's largest period-drama sets, with some 130 hanok structures — Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung, the Eastern Palace and more — strung along the mountainside. The village and market-street scenes where Yeon Ji-young mingles with commoners were shot here. Sitting at the entrance of Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park, it pairs nicely with an autumn-foliage walk.
Gosanjeong Pavilion at 177-42 Gasong-gil, Dosan-myeon, Andong, North Gyeongsang Province. A mid-Joseon pavilion nestled beneath a cliff on the upper Nakdong River, its view from across the water shaped the show's riverside and ferry-landing scenes. Also known as a Mr. Sunshine location, it was designated a national Scenic Site in 2025. The prettiest angle is from the far bank, so shoot your photos from across the river.
Petite France at 1063 Hoban-ro, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. A whimsical French-village theme park that served as the soft, present-day backdrop for the scenes where Yeon Ji-young works as a chef. A frequent filming spot — including My Love from the Star — its colorful storybook buildings beg to be photographed. It pairs well with a Cheongpyeong Lake drive.
