Just as Batman, Gordon, and the new district attorney Harvey Dent have Gotham's organised crime cornered, a man with no aim and no demands walks in. The Joker does not want money; he wants to watch the city dismantle itself, and he keeps asking Batman whether it is possible to win while keeping the rules.

Gotham is Chicago again, but this time shot far more openly as itself. The chase where the truck flips really did happen on Lower Wacker Drive, the road that runs beneath the Loop, and you can still walk into it. Add the leap from Hong Kong's Two International Finance Centre and the trip spans two cities.

Filming Locations

01

Lower Wacker Drive Chicago Illinois

Lower Wacker Drive in Chicago, the underground roadway where the Joker's truck flips and the Batpod runs the walls. It is a lower deck passing directly beneath the Loop's towers, dark even at midday, and the repeating concrete columns look exactly as they do on screen.

02

Two International Finance Centre Hong Kong

Two International Finance Centre in Hong Kong, the tower Batman crashes out of with Lau in tow. Look up from the Central ferry piers and the sense of height in the film reads immediately; the Hong Kong Monetary Authority gallery on the 55th floor is free to enter.

03

Old Chicago Main Post Office 433 West Van Buren Street Chicago

The Old Chicago Main Post Office, whose vast empty floors played the interior of Gotham National Bank in the opening heist and Gotham General Hospital. Derelict for years and now fully renovated, its ground-floor hall and riverside roof garden are open to the public.
